Air attacks and targeting moving units

Lets say you have a level 1 infantry unit in a sector with a level 9 defense base owned by player A.

This unit is targeted by a 1 jet owned by player B.
Clearly if the unit does not move the player's B jet will be shot down by the base.

Now lets say player A has given the infantry orders to move forward in the direction of the jet attack by 1 space.

I believe (and correct me if I'm wrong) that if player A moves first the unit will be killed and if player B moves first the jet will be shot down.

Is this correct?

Yes, it sounds correct.

However, if the truck is still just one sector away from the base, it is possible that the defense turret will take down the jet as it attacks the truck since defense turrets fire on air units that pass nearby.

Any chance of knowing what "nearby" means. And this is only a chance?

I believe nearby = adjacent sectors, so if your unit moved out two, it's unprotected.

also, Johnny said earlier that adjacent sectors only get partial protection not the full attack of the turret.

Any chance of knowing what "nearby" means.
The turrets (and units, though at only partial strength) will fire with some strength at passing air units in sectors directly north, east, south, and west of their sector, and with even less strength at air units passing the sectors to their corners.

The attack on the air units will <i>definitely</i> happen. Its effectiveness, though, depends on the strength of the air unit(s), the strength of the turret(s), and a random factor.
