better anti-air capabilities

So I am fairly new at this, but quickly got involved in some interesting wars on Cerato.

For both sides the use of missiles and air strikes has been very effective in preventing long range land grabs. Essentially, bomb the hell out of nearby bases so that new units cannot be created. Then pick off surviving units. This makes it very difficult for either side to effectively get close enough to actually challenge each other.

As the nation’s involved in our war are still fairly small, the limiting factor is the cost of missiles. But as nations get bigger, it will be possible for players to buy huge numbers of missiles. Going forward, this could effectively prevent any long range attacks/invasions as all construction trucks, bases, transports could be killed from 500 tiles out. Nukes would make this even worse.

For this reason, I think some better anti-air capabilities would be useful. A missile defense building with a 95% chance of intercepting missiles and nukes would be useful. In order to balance it should be expensive (I will throw out $50K?) and remain vulnerable to air strikes/land units. Planes based at airbases could also have the option to do air-defense/air-superiority missions. Essentially, if given this option planes could intercept incoming airplane attacks. With these two options there would be a more effective counter to air attacks.

It also may make sense to limit the # of buildings in each tile – that way a tile can’t defend against every type of attack at the same time.

I would also love some more info on the mechanics of combat. Any suggestions on good previous discussions on this?

As someone who has been targeted in large-scale air assaults, I can tell you that existing units and defense turrets can be used effectively against air attacks. Defense turrets alone (not just on the base, but between your enemy and your base) can make using jets, missiles, or even bombs to stop you difficult. At the very least, they cause your enemy to spend vast sums of money.

hahaha I meant for air attacks.

For a land attack, an enemy just need to puncture a spot and then flood units through, so you have to have contingency plans.
